Apple watch needs to be charged daily: Report

Apple watch would require a daily charge as per the latest report; fails to address the issue of battery life in smartwatches

Apple made quite a lot of noise when it launched the Apple watch at its iPhone 6 launch event. The smartwatch was off to a poor start from the masses due to its design but Apple insisted on the fact that it would fit right into the ecosystem and went on to explain the functionalities on offer. The Apple Watch witnesses quite an elaborate launch but what it didn't mention then was as to how long will the smartwatch last on a single charge.

Apple has now mentioned that the smartwatch's battery will last "about a day right now" which means that you would be required to charge it on a daily basis. Another thing that might happen is that Apple may increase the battery life when the smartwatch gets launched but Apple is known not to bring in changes in the final previewed versions of its devices. There surely is quite a lot of room for improvement in terms of battery life.

Having said that, its not like its Android Wear counterparts are doing any better either. Supposedly best smartwatch till date, the Moto 360 also lasts about a day on a single charge and the same holds true for many other as well. It is only the likes of the LG G Watch R and Samsung Gear Live which claim to work for 2 days on a single charge. The Apple Watch will hit the retail shelves in February 2015 so Apple has a fair bit of time to optimise the battery life of the smartwatch.

The exact battery figures of the smartwatch are not available as of now. Apple spokeswoman Nat Kerris regarding the issue has stated that, ““We anticipate that people will charge nightly which is why we designed an innovative charging solution that combines our MagSafe technology and inductive charging.” Apple is know to change the way things are done and with Android Wear missing out on battery life, we thought Apple might just take care of that issue. But as it turns out, that may not be the case.
