Hmm, this one’s a toughie: given the choice between a phone made and designed by Motorola or a phone made and designed by Motorola, which one would you choose? They look the same, they come from the same place and we’re sure they’re going to be engineered to the same standards. The Moto does have a few more options, though, as there are optional wood or leather covers.

The processor inside the Nexus 6 is a quad-core Snapdragon 805 clocked at 2.7 GHz, with 3 GB of RAM and an Adreno 420 GPU. The Moto X 2014 has a quad-core Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.5 GHz and 2 GB of RAM.

Nexus 6 vs Moto X 2014: early verdict
In many ways the Nexus 6 is the Moto X with some minor updates: it has a bigger, more densely packed screen, a faster processor and an extra gigabyte of RAM. There’s a bigger battery too, although to an extent that’s nullified by the extra power required by that bigger display. If you like the Moto X but wish it were a little bigger, the Nexus 6 looks set to delight you - but if you’re quite happy with the slightly smaller display the inevitable discounting on the Moto X could make it quite the bargain.
