KYMI puts the delicate looking Xperia Go through some tough use to find it’s quite a resilient handset after all
Sony sure seems to have hit the right spot with its small Xperia Go handset. All mobiles phones go through drops, dust and spills but few make it out safe and sound. Well, the sleek and slim Xperia Go does. Check out our review of this dust, drop and water resistant Android smartphone.
Aesthetics
At first glance the Xperia Go looks slight, delicate and almost girly but in fact it is a conveniently sized, elegant yet sturdy handset. Sony has designed it to fit easily into one’s hands and pockets. The only thing that gives it a sort of a rugged feel is its textured back. The grainy texture takes a little getting used to, as does the fact that it is a magnet for scratches.
What makes the Xperia Go convenient to use is the typical way Sony has designed it in. Below the 3.5-inch display are three buttons: back, home and menu. On the right side of the device is the volume rocker while the top left corner houses the power/unlock button.
Hardware
Sony’s new offering is quite a powerhouse of features, powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor. Games and apps run on it pretty smoothly, thanks to its Android Gingerbread operating system and 512 MB of RAM.
When KYM experts opened up the Xperia Go to take a peek inside, they found that the sturdiness of the phone comes in part from the rubbery grommets that protect the microSD and Sim card slots. The clumsiest of users can rest assured that the Xperia Go can survive drops, spill and dirt and live to tell the tale.
Sony has also given the handset a gorgeous turquoise colour on the inside and we wonder why it didn’t bring the colour out front on its main frame.
Display
Even though its 3.5-inch display might not be able to compete against the 4-inchers out there, it’s quite useful for most phone activities like web browsing, checking email, playing games and sending text messages.
Sony's Mobile Bravia Engine ensures that colours on the phone’s screen are bright and natural. The phone’s resolution is so-so at 480x320 pixels but it works for basic phone functions if not for long hours of viewing photos and HD videos.
