HTC is reportedly working on launching an octa core phablet which will have a Mediatek octa core chipset as its heart
HTC is getting back the momentum in terms of sales these days and it plans on continuing with it in future too. After having launched its first 64-bit octa core handset at the IFA 2014, it is planning on launching an octa core handset with a Mediatek chipset in near future. The upcoming phablet will be slotted about the Desire 616 and will feature specifications similar to the HTC Desire 816 as per the leakster @upleaks.
The only difference will be in the RAM other than the chipset. The RAM would probably be bumped to 2GB from the 1.5GB of the HTC Desire 816. Rest of the hardware specifications of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 running Desire 816 are expected to be carried forth to this one. So the upcoming phablet will feature a 5.5 inch Super LCD2 display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels resulting in a pixel density of 267 pixels per inch.
Under the hood will be the Mediatek Octa Core chipset which has found its way into a wide array of budget octa core handsets. It will probably be clocked at 2GHz considering the fact that it will be competing in the Rs 20,000-25,000 phablet arena. The internal storage of the new phablet will stand at 8GB which will be further available for expansion by another 128GB with the aid of a microSD card slot.
It will run on Android 4.4 KitKat with Sense UI 6 on top of it which features Blinkfeed and company as a part of the software package. At the back will be a 13MP snapper which is one of the better ones in the mid range segment and joining it will be a 5MP camera up front which will be a treat for the selfie buffs. It will probably be a Dual SIM phablet and will get 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB OTG for connectivity in all probability.
The design philosophy is expected to remain similar to the Desire 816 as well and will come under the Desire series of smartphones. Its primary competitors would include the likes of Micromax Canvas Gold. HTC will be able to charge a slight premium due to its imagery but it needs to get the pricing just right to set things straight for itself in the budget phablet segment.
