Blackberry reveals its future plans and says it will stick around with traditional QWERTY keyboard
Blackberry seems to be in a mood to go retro as it is turning its focus once again on the physical QWERTY keyboard. The devices like Passport and the classic have been able to garner an ample amount or response from consumers and hopefully this will give the troubled Canadian phone manufacture a dash of respite.
Sameer Bhatia Director, Distributor at Blackberry India said “QWERTY has been one of our strong suits, keeping with the consumer trend and demand, we will continue to launch devices based on QWERTY. There remains a large portion of the user base that are loyal to the QWERTY experience”
The Outlandishly shaped Blackberry Passport has been the Cynosure of the tech world as it sports a square 4.5 x 4.5 inch perfectly square screen. “You will be able to navigate web pages, apps and e-mails by lightly brushing your fingers over the keys, which helps with things like scrolling and cursor placement” said Mr Bhatia.
Blackberry Classic will host the track pad and functions keys. This device is expected to be slapped with a affordable price tag. Blackberry when asked about doting an online only presence like Motorola said that they still believe in the traditional retail system and would try to strike the perfect balance with both the marketing methods.
We strongly believe that Blackberry should price their devices aptly and try to stay an arms lenth away from the premium pricing like how they used to do in the good old days. Passport is indeed an innovative move but it would need some auxiliary support in the form of an entire lineup. There is still an considerable crowd out there who are hooked to physical QWERTY Keyboard and Blackberry will be the only option for them.
Another aspect Blackberry needs to address the shortage of applications in the store. Side loading Android Application is definitely not going to be a long term solution. It would be interesting to see another smartphone manufacturer come out of troubled seas just like how HTC and Motorola did.
